Braeside is a residential neighborhood in the south-west quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. It is located north of Anderson Road, south of Southland Drive, west of 14th Street SW and east of 24th Street SW.
Demographics:
In 2006 the neighbourhood had a population of 6,182. As of 2000, 20.5% of the residents were immigrants. A proportion of 10.6% of the buildings were condominiums or apartments, and 19.6% of the housing was used for renting.
In 2008 the neighbourhood had a population of 6,014, a 1.32% decrease from 2007, when the census registered 6,026 residents.
Infrastructure:
There are two shopping complexes in the community, both strip malls. The larger complex located on Southland Drive is home to a Shoppers Drug Mart and a string of smaller retail and dining outlets. The other facility nestled in the corner of 24th Street and Braeside Drive is home to a Pizza Hut restaurant, a Tim Hortons, a KFC, a Subway sandwich shop, and several smaller retail and medical outlets, as well as a community police station. A number of convenience stores are also located in the neighbourhood. The majority of land use is residential, however.
Education:
Braeside is served by the Braeside Elementary public school. A Junior High School is located immediately north of the community. |
